6oz Heritage Candles

Why we made them

Ragas are not just music. In Indian classical tradition, each Raga is mapped to a time of day, a season, and an emotional state - a precise framework for how sound creates feeling. We named these candles after Ragas because the principle is the same: scent reaches the nervous system before the conscious mind has caught up. Each fragrance is built around a specific mood. Not how a room smells. How a room feels.

Sage and Veda Heritage Candle burning in a calm home setting

MADE FOR YOUR SPACE

The skin-brain loop does not require skin contact.

The Heritage Candles work through the air.

Every Sage and Veda product works through the olfactory-limbic pathway - the direct connection between scent, the nervous system, and emotional state. The oils work through skin and scent together. The candles work through the air alone. Scent reaches the limbic system before you have registered the smell consciously. A room changes before you can explain why it feels different. Light the candle that matches the mood you need. The nervous system receives the signal before the wax has melted an inch.
  • The ambient skin-brain loop - mood through scent, no application needed
  • Each Raga name is not decorative - it maps to a specific emotional state the fragrance is built to evoke
  • Pairs with the mood-matched oil - Bahar with Amrit, Marwa with Maati, Bela or Kafi with Radiant Gold

How To Use

Trim

Trim

Pinch off any black wick tip before lighting. Use your fingers or scissors - about the height of a match head.

Light

Light

Burn for at least two hours the first time. This melts the wax evenly and protects the full 40-hour burn.

Burn

Burn

One hour minimum. Four hours maximum per session. Never leave unattended.

Repurpose

Repurpose

When 1cm of wax remains, stop. Pour hot water in to loosen the wax, let it cool, lift the disc out. Wash and reuse the vessel.

Pro Tip: Trim the wick before every burn - not just the first. A long wick produces a larger flame, faster wax consumption, and soot on the vessel. Five minutes of maintenance doubles the life of the candle.

The Scent

THE FORMULA

Everything You Need to Know

Description
Four scents. Four moods. One collection built around the principle that scent reaches the nervous system before you have had a chance to think about it. Soy-coconut wax blend, cotton wick, 40-hour clean burn. Each candle named after an Indian Raga - a musical framework precisely mapped to an emotional state. Not how the room smells. How the room feels.
Why You'll Love It
  • Four Ragas, four moods - each scent is matched to a specific emotional state
  • Soy-coconut wax burns cleaner and slower than paraffin - no black soot, no toxins
  • 40-hour burn time with proper wick maintenance
  • Cotton wick - no zinc core, minimal soot, even flame throughout
  • Vessel is designed to be repurposed once the candle is finished
  • Pairs with the mood-matched oil for a complete skin-brain loop experience
How to Layer

To burn

  1. Trim the wick to 5mm before every burn - not just the first
  2. On first burn, allow the wax to melt to the full edge of the vessel - this prevents tunnelling
  3. Burn for a minimum of one hour and a maximum of four hours per session
  4. Never leave a burning candle unattended

To extend the scent

  1. Place in a room with some air circulation - scent carries further in moving air
  2. When approximately 1cm of wax remains, stop burning

To repurpose the vessel

  1. Once cooled, remove remaining wax with warm water
  2. Clean with mild soap and reuse as a small planter, pen holder, or storage vessel

Frequently Asked Questions

Contact us
How long does one candle last?
Up to 40 hours with proper wick maintenance. Trim the wick to 5mm before every burn and keep sessions between one and four hours. A neglected wick is the most common reason candles burn faster than expected.
Which scent should I choose?
Choose based on the mood you want the room to hold. Bahar for calm - rose, white lily, amberwood. Marwa for confidence and groundedness - sandalwood, cardamom, amber. Bela for a soft lift - jasmine sambac and vanilla. Kafi for a fresher lift - prickly pear and cactus flower. If you are buying for someone else, Bahar is the most universally loved. If you want the most unexpected, Kafi.
Why are the candles named after Ragas?
In Indian classical music, a Raga is not just a melody - it is a precise emotional framework mapped to a time of day, a season, and a feeling. Each candle fragrance was built to evoke the same emotional state as its Raga. The naming is not decorative. It is the brief.
What is soy-coconut wax and why does it matter?
Soy-coconut wax burns cleaner and slower than paraffin. It produces significantly less soot, releases fragrance more evenly, and comes from renewable plant sources. The cotton wick completes the clean burn - no zinc core, no toxins.
Can I use this alongside the oils?
Yes - and the experience compounds. Light a candle while applying Amrit or Maati. The olfactory-limbic pathway receives the mood signal from the room and from the oil on the skin simultaneously. Match the moods for a consistent nervous system signal: Bahar with Amrit, Marwa with Maati, Bela or Kafi with Radiant Gold.
Is the vessel reusable?
Yes. When approximately 1cm of wax remains, stop burning. Allow to cool, remove remaining wax with warm water, and clean with mild soap. Use as a small planter, pen holder, or storage vessel.
Is this a good gift?
It is the easiest gift in the Sage and Veda range. No skin type, no hair type, no application method to consider. The Raga naming gives it a story worth sharing. The 40-hour burn time makes it feel considered rather than token.
How do these candles work as mood tools?
Scent reaches the limbic system - the brain's emotional centre - through the olfactory bulb before cognitive processing has registered the smell. Each fragrance is built around compounds chosen for their documented effect on a specific emotional state. The room changes before you can explain why. That is not atmosphere. That is how the nervous system is wired.
